MAXIM ZHESTKOV

Maxim Zhestkov is an artist who examines the connections of physical and digital realities. Divided by a permeable membrane, these two worlds exist in a constant exchange and redefine one another. Merging architecture, sculpture, color, movement, and sound, the artist combines various channels of perception to develop a distinct universal language to depict complicated concepts and ideas in a succinct yet not scaled down manner. Combining basic geometrical shapes — dots, spheres, and planes — Zhestkov creates intricate and hypnotic visual stories centralized on objects in their volume, detail, and beauty of movement.

SKYGOLPE

Skygolpe is one of the leading artists in the NFT space. His practice mixes different digital and analogue elements to achieve a hybrid result that lives in a middle ground between the virtual and real dimensions (mixed reality). His paintings are obtained by superimposing different layers of physical and digital painting. The acrylic paint deposited on the canvas is confronted with different underlying materials and patterns generating a dialogue that breaks a precise pattern of mono-thematic definition of painting to embrace new formal and heterogeneous solutions. Each work is constructed as a “desktop” in which fragments of other references are mixed, generating comparisons and juxtapositions, revising a gestural approach. The canvases thus comprise a process that generates “errors” and unexpected results that combine to form the composition of the final painting. Occupying seemingly provisional positions in the gallery space, his installations aggregate different elements and contexts related to digital culture, rejecting the rhetoric of closed meanings to draw rather on a more open debate about the digital and its influence within everyday life.

PROJECT AIKIDO

The essence of Project Aikido is to provide a platform for African Art to be shown globally through the Burning Man project. Hopefully this will lead the way for other African artists to one day replicate what we are looking to Achieve at Burning man in 2022.

If we look at the Project on a micro level, the people working for Usha come from poor backgrounds, some are disabled, and here they are given an opportunity to contribute to a project that will receive global recognition. Aikido is translated as the “way of unifying with life energy”, and that’s what the essence of our project is, bringing people in harmony together. It’s reflected in the charity we decided to attach to our project, Sibikwa, a not for profit that brings the arts to reach historically disadvantaged communities and youth at risk. It is a visionary arts centre that promotes arts education, performance, vocational training and job creation, concentrating on cultural heritage, and we’ve pledged that a portion of all proceeds made from all the fundraisers will go towards the charity.
